To be an effective business leader and business coach, I have to be intentional with my actions and leadership to help my team and clients stay focused on where we are going. We need to see progress, otherwise I am not doing my job. I take this role very seriously and in order to be this intentional, I have done the inner work required to understand what is driving me to lead and what bigger purpose I want to create.
My inner work resulted in the purpose statement that I work from: To empower people to build a better world. This personal mission keeps me focused on enabling people around me to always look to improve. For me, improvement is not just in the job but for the whole person, including myself.
It is from this inner work that the name Black Creek originated. I am a recovering workaholic so I have to constantly remind myself that work is just a small part of my life and focus on my whole self, too. Black Creek is a beautiful part of the South Carolina Pee Dee region where we have property and a long-leaf pine tree farm. We have a ton of family there as well and love spending time there. This is the place and community that gives me the most peace and joy, so every time I sit down to support my coaching clients, this name focuses me on what is important to me, reminds me of my big picture so that I lead the whole person, which leads to more satisfying and sustainable work.
