Use the Right Tool

In the dynamic landscape of business, using the right tool and expert is critical to avoiding missteps and wasting time. At Black Creek, where coaching excellence is a top priority, I’ve witnessed firsthand the transformative power of using the right tool and continue to preach this everyday.

Even before I began coaching, using the right tool with my marketing business was critical to our survival. When I started two decades ago, our clients needed a logo, business cards, a yellow page ad and a brochure. That was pretty simple to master, but as more marketing channels have been add like websites, social media, and email marketing, to name a few, it was harder to master each element. We had to become masters to finding the right tool and partner to keep up to speed and in business.

I thought I understood the principle of the right tool for the job, but realized that I did not take this as deep as I could until I started to work with a business coach. We were doing everything and mastering nothing. We wore all the hats.

In most business’s early days, you are bootstrapping your way to your first signs of profit. You need to do this in the early days because you don’t have the resources, but there comes a day when what got you here, won’t get you to the next level, and you need to examine your tools and see what is right.

I started my coaching journey with EMyth and they helped me see this. I will always have a special place in my heart for them and what they did for me, but there came a time in my coaching journey that my tool, EMyth, would not get me to the next level, which was the main reason I branched out on my own. I needed more tools and experts for my business and to help my client’s as well.

There are so many amazing thought-leaders in today’s business world that we would be foolish to assume one person had all the answers. Our hyper-connected world where we can share ideas faster than we think think them has set up to be able to pull from many resources and from the best. It is this idea that has shaped my book-based curriculum so that we can pull from leaders like Michael Gerber, Seth Godin, Gene Wickman, Simon Sinek, Donald Miller, Rick Armstrong, Carrie Patterson, and David Allen, just to name a few.
